Middlewick Range Association

Middlewick Range Association (MRA) is a sporting rifle club offering its members a safe and friendly environment to enjoy rifle shooting.

We do not have a clubhouse nor do we possess our own shooting grounds. We use the facilities offered by the military ranges at Middlewick and Fingringhoe near Colchester, Essex to zero telescopes and practice with our full-bore/centrefire and small-bore/rimfire rifles on one Sunday a month (two in the summer months) and one Wednesday a month. We shoot mainly at 100m range but occasionally at 200m. We cater for rimfire by putting up intermediate targets at 25m or 50m as required from the 100m firing point.

The club has circa 60 members who are mainly involved in deer stalking and pest control, but who are also interested in historic firearms. The club has members who regularly fire rifles which date back to the Boer War.

Many members also reload their own ammunition so a lot of their time is taken up developing powder/bullet combinations for their specific rifles/uses.

While competitions and long range shooting are not of particular interest to us, we do have a “turkey shoot” each Christmas when the President’s Cup competition is held. However, the venison stew is usually the highlight of this meeting!

If you are interested in “practical” shooting in a non competitive context or reloading ammunition, we are sure you will find like-minded people in our club.
